"A quiet man who made a loud difference."

Biography

Douglas Lee Morgan spent 31 years as a park ranger with the National Park Service, most of them at the Great Smoky Mountains. He knew every trail, every waterfall, every seasonal bird that passed through. Doug was not a man of many words but he could talk about wilderness for hours. He spent his retirement writing a field guide to Appalachian wildflowers that was published in 2024. He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Kelly, and the park he loved enough to spend his life inside of.

Doug Morgan was the kind of ranger who made visitors feel the park was theirs. He gave 31 years to this land and it shows in every trail that's well-kept.
