"He gave generously and expected nothing back."

Biography

Oscar Bernard Whitmore was a retired banker and lifelong philanthropist from Charlotte, North Carolina. He spent 30 years in finance and another 20 giving much of what he had earned away. Through the Whitmore Family Foundation, Oscar funded scholarships for first-generation college students, after-school programs, and a free health clinic in his hometown. He never sought recognition for any of it. He is survived by his wife Patricia, three children, eight grandchildren, and scholarship recipients who are only now learning who paid for their education.

The free clinic he funded has seen over 12,000 patients in seven years. He sat on the board but never asked for a photo or a plaque. Just results.
